Breast Cancer Awareness Month Special

On Thursday, October 30th at 6 PM EST, Disability Advocate and Ms. Wheelchair Michigan 2023, Jaime Junior, opens up about her raw, emotional journey through breast cancer — a story that sheds light on what too many women with disabilities face in medical spaces.

Her words are more than a testimony — they’re a call for compassion, accessibility, and change in how healthcare treats women with chronic illness and disabilities.

Because early detection should never depend on your ability.

Jaime Junior is looking for people with disabilities and allies to advocate for changes to breast cancer screenings for women with disabilities.

If you would like to participate in the new group, please email us divasinthecityllc@gmail.com. We will pass along your information.

On October 7th, we had a conversation with researchers, maternal health advocates about cervical cancer screenings, reproductive justice, and health equity for Black women with disabilities.

Our partners on this event are University of Michigan, Michigan Medicine, Mothering Justice, Center for Race and Disability Justice, Divas With Disabilities Project, 100 Shades of Diversability and Ms. Wheelchair America

In honor of Women's History month, we reflected on the remarkable legacies of trailblazers like Harriet Tubman, Ida B. Wells, Fannie Lou Hamer, and Madam C.J. Walker.

Together, we’re asking an important question in 2025: What does it mean to be a Disabled, Woman, Boss, and Free? Watch this an inspiring discussion featuring our incredible speakers:

Julianna Johnson Yates - CEO of Crippled But Cute Beauty Firm

Robin Wilson - Founder and Owner of Vesey Lane Goods

These phenomenal women share their journeys as successful entrepreneurs, exploring what it truly means to live unapologetically and embrace agency as Black women with disabilities and chronic illnesses.
